Director of Operations - South Dallas

Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Velvet Taco has 30+ restaurants across multiple states, with plans to open additional each year over the next 5 years. We are looking for a Director of Operations to lead our Tribe in South Dallas, Tx.

The Director of Operations is responsible for the quality of restaurant operations and is dedicated to building an environment of operational excellence. They will align teams through performance measures that achieve our business goals. This position is also responsible for each restaurant’s execution and provides leadership and coaching to achieve high operational standards and increase sales and profits. The Director of Operations fosters a culture of high energy and high performing teams, making Velvet Taco a place our Team Members want to work.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

This position will be asked to participate in company-wide initiatives and leadership meetings beyond normal traditional operational duties as the company begins an aggressive growth and expansion plan. Essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Encourages and fosters the development of Management Teams, providing them with challenging and measurable goals for their professional growth. Can easily adapt delivery of information, content, or style of feedback to best meet the needs of the audience or Manager

• Develops succession plans for staffing needs with a strong ability to recruit and develop others. Assesses talent at all levels and understands the importance of building a bench

• Skilled at the planning, development and implementation of practices that meet our high operational standards. Is a champion of change and inspires others to embrace the evolution of a growing brand

• Easily handles performance issues and holds teams accountable in a constructive and timely manner

• High level of P&L acumen and develops action plans to continuously raise the level of performance

• Ensures culinary standards are being followed in the areas of food safety, food storage, prep recipes, line procedures and all of culinary processes

• Sets the bar high in maintaining a clean, food safe and professional work environment while making it high energy and fun

• Believes in and supports a culture of continuous improvement and continuous learning and actively works on self-development

• Skilled at developing and setting annual plans, initiatives and budgets and successfully achieving them

• Execute and assist in developing strategies for restaurant support functions such as marketing, training, recruiting and NROs (New Restaurant Openings)

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ years in multi-unit food service leadership role required (Undergraduate degree preferred)

• Proven track record of successful P&L and operations management of at least $5-10 million in AUV

• Proven leadership skills with a strong ability to assess talent and build effective teams

• Hands on ability to direct management teams in high-volume, fast-paced environments

• Role model with high ethical standards for self and others

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization

People (HR) Manager

Overview:

Ready to be part of something big? Velvet Taco has 30+ restaurants across multiple states, with plans to open many more over the next 5 years.  Our People team is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced RSO People Operations Manager to join our Tribe! The ideal person will have a passion for people, operational excellence, and overall deliver an exceptional Tribe experience.

The RSO (aka Restaurant Support Office) People Operations Manager plays a critical role in achieving Velvet Taco’s annual and long-term growth plans for the entire company. Reporting to the Director of People Operations, the position will be primarily responsible for supporting Velvet Taco’s Restaurant Support Office talent and workforce initiatives, as well as HRIS facilitation and general RSO administrative duties. This person must be a cultural leader for the brand and help to execute the talent, succession, and retention goals as a building block for one of the hottest restaurant concepts in the industry.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

This role will be included in leadership opportunities beyond traditional talent or administrative duties as the company begins an aggressive growth and expansion plan. Position responsibilities include the following:

  • Administrator for RSO and Salaried Managers in Toast Payroll ensuring proper onboarding, transfers, I-9 compliance, etc. providing reports as necessary for internal/external audits
  • Maintain Velvet Taco Job Description library ensuring accuracy and consistency making updates as necessary
  • Maintain organization of Team Members by working with People Operations Managers and supporting the recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; conducting exit interviews; recommending changes when necessary
  • Partnering with Director of People Operations to ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements
  • Supports People Operations Managers in the implementation of talent management, employee relations, implementation, and interpretation of standards, policies, practices, and change management
  • Mitigate risk and liability when handling employee relations investigations, following proper due diligence, conducting thorough and objective investigations, providing recommended follow-up actions, and executing any necessary actions, as necessary
  • Lead Restaurant Support Office talent acquisition needs and recruiting efforts by posting positions and screening applicants, scheduling in person interviews, drafting offer letters and running background checks to ensure a positive onboarding experience for new hires
  • Conduct benefit enrollment eligibility tracking (ACA & 30-day period) and communication to Managers and Hourly Team Members (e.g., Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Life, Qualified life events, COBRA)
  • Manages PAFs for all transfers, Terminations in Toast and onboarding processing in Toast
  • Participates in Team Member Appreciation by running and sharing Birthdays and Anniversaries
  • Facilitates Worker’s Compensation program by ensuring timely claims reporting, follow up, return to work plan and adjuster or Team Member communication
  • Manages the FMLA documentation and tracking process for all Team Members
  • Sends quarterly PTO balances to ensure timely usage and ensures accurate accruals
  • Orders office supplies for RSO and ensures public areas are well maintained and fully stocked
  • Participates in the planning and execution of RSO Team Appreciation efforts

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required, (management, business, human resources, psychology).
  • 5+ years of talent experience in multi-unit retail, restaurant or hospitality required.
  • Demonstrated command of: Excel and other analytical and reporting systems/tools, Restaurant/Retail operations, Enterprise reporting systems, Payroll or Benefit systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to partner and manage cross functionally with other departments
  • Self-starter and must be able to work both autonomously and in a group setting
  • Skilled in process and project management

Controller

Overview:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Velvet Taco has 30+ restaurants across multiple states, with plans to open 15+ a year over the next 5 years. We're looking for a talented and experienced Controller to join our Tribe! The Controller plays a critical role in achieving Velvet Taco’s annual and long-term growth plans. Reporting to the CFO, the position will be primarily responsible for supporting Velvet Taco’s accounting operations including budgeting, planning, and other financial matters.

This position has supervisory responsibilities which include overseeing the Team Members responsible for financial reporting, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation, implementing internal control policies and procedures for all financial activities, and overseeing training programs/identifying training needs. This role will be included in leadership opportunities beyond traditional accounting duties as the company begins an aggressive growth and expansion plan. 

Position responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions in the restaurants and restaurant support office to minimize risk.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Recommends Financial Metrics that will be used to measure Velvet Taco’s performance and provides management with short and long-term financial objectives.
  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to leadership.
  • Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Reviews financial details from past, present, and forecasted operations; identifies development opportunities and improvements that can be made.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between the external auditors and provides requested information for the annual audit.
  • Ensures accuracy and is capable of filing quarterly and annual reports with governmental agencies, including federal, state and local income, property, payroll, franchise, sales & use taxes.
  • Maintains knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards ensuring compliance.
  • Acts as liaison between company’s insurance broker for all lines of insurance coverages.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required (Accounting or Business Administration), Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation required.
  • 10+ years of related experience in multi-unit retail, restaurant or hospitality required.
  • 5+ years with a public accounting firm or a public company in a management position required.
  • Restaurant experience (preferably at the Corporate or similar level) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated command of:
  • Excellent management and supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and specialized accounting software used by the organization.
  • Excellent skills in PowerPoint creation and presentation.
  • Excellent and highly accurate math and accounting skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to partner and manage cross functionally with other departments.
  • Self-starter and must be able to work both autonomously and in a group setting.
  • Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
